Does arthritis sometimes make it difficult for you to do things you've always taken for granted? This can be frustrating, but remember: For just about every problem, there's a strategy that may be helpful.
Make things easier on yourself. Not only will your day run more smoothly, but you may also be able to reduce the risk of further damage to your joints. Arthritis can make you feel vulnerable; protect yourself. Try planning ahead. Do daily tasks present special challenges? After realistically assessing the situation, you may want to make some changes at home and at work.
Change makes many people uncomfortable. But of course, everything in life changes. And you don't have to manage it all alone. When you need help, ask your doctor, family, or friends.
Make it easier on yourself
Certain activities may be more challenging than others, but there's almost
always something that can be done to help.
Talk to your
healthcare provider—your doctor
or
occupational
therapist—for specific
strategies. Here are a few examples:
Protect yourself
It's important to listen to your body. Slow down. Respect your pain. And pay
particular attention to your safety. A few suggestions:
Arthritis and work
It's important to know your strengths and understand your limitations. Identify
the problems arthritis creates in your ability to function at work, such as
pain, fatigue, diminished strength, or difficulty with repetitive or awkward
movements.
CELEBREX, the No. 1 prescribed arthritis medication*, is approved for a broad range of painful conditions: acute pain, primary dysmenorrhea, osteoarthritis, and adult rheumatoid arthritis.
Proven pain relief, established upper gastrointestinal safety and tolerability profiles, and a demonstrated cardiovascular safety profile contribute to the utility of CELEBREX as a first-line prescription therapy for these painful conditions.
* IMS America Ltd., National Prescription Audit TRx, 6/30/02
Important information: CELEBREX is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to celecoxib; in patients who have demonstrated allergic-type reactions to sulfonamides; and in patients who have experienced asthma, urticaria, or allergic-type reactions after taking aspirin or other NSAIDs. Serious GI toxicity such as bleeding, ulceration, and perforation can occur with or without warning symptoms in patients treated with NSAIDs. CELEBREX should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit outweighs the potential risk to the fetus. CELEBREX should be avoided during late pregnancy. As with all NSAIDs, CELEBREX should be used with caution in patients with fluid retention, hypertension, or heart failure. NSAIDs may diminish the effects of ACE inhibitors and can reduce the natriuretic effect of furosemide and thiazides. The most common side effects of CELEBREX were dyspepsia, diarrhea, and abdominal pain, and were generally mild to moderate. Please see complete CELEBREX prescribing information.
