The "Other" web site you get when you phone for help
Here is a complete and total fraud of a product. There are many like this on the market.
I'm going to take the time to demonstrate just how fraudulent this whole product and the company behind it really is.
The following is my opinion -- I allege it to be true.
I also allege that the web is full of more frauds like this.
Some guy, let's call him "John Smith" gets this idea. This entire fraud could be committed by one person acting alone. He would need a small amount of knowledge about pain killers, web design and domain registration.
He starts off by inventing a name, just any combination of vowels and consonants that can be pronounced, and for which "word" there is currently no domain registered.
There could be thousands of possible names like this. He gets a second name and then a third.
He decides on these three: "Trivestin" and "Covaxil" and "Covaxillaboratories." He may have invented more names. These three, at least, he knows are not "taken" so he registers them as domain sites, undoubtedly in a fictitious name.
He registers all these names as follows:
Registrant Contact:
Western Holdings, LLC
Michael Meade (mimeade@basicresearch.org)
801 234 7000
FAX: 801 234 8146
1210 S. Walnut
Casper, WY 82601
US
He registered this three sites in late March 2003, in anticipation of the scam he was planning for April and May, 2003.
So, "Michael Meade" is the supposed name. There may even be someone to answer the phone at the phone given above. Michael Meade uses an eMail address related to another web site that seems to sell supplements -- HERE. This web site has only a couple pages, claims to "provide" supplements, claims to have started in 1992, but the web was first registered in 1999, and has zero information about the persons who may have registered the domain name.
If his fraud is very complex, he would even rent some sort of office, or facility at the address given above and have someone there to receive mail, and possibly from which to ship out the first batches of his product -- before too many people blow the whistle on him.
Then he finds some "supplement packaging company" that is willing to give him a pill of some sort, with several ingredients in it -- in a nice looking package.
Some of these frauds are only on the net. In fact, the FBI counts internet fraud as the number three priority for its agents, with only counter-terrorism and intelligence-gathering as higher!
At a news conference, Attorney General John Ashcroft called Internet fraud and other forms of online crime ‘‘among the fastest-growing’’ in the nation. Other Justice Department officials noted that cybercrime has become the FBI’s third highest priority, behind counterterrorism and intelligence-gathering efforts. (Source)
And,
"Operation E-Con" was made up of 90 separate investigations involving 89,000 victims and more than $176 million in losses. (source)
How can you protect yourself against fraud on the net? First click here to read how Karl Loren detected one fraud. Next, take the ordinary common sense approach. Look to see if the web is offering a phone number, a street address, and has more than a dozen pages. The fraud at the link, above, had only four pages on the web and had no phone number, no street address and in fact had been on the web for less than two months!
This fraud maker then takes out ads in large circulation newspapers and magazines, where he charges $41.00 for a bottle of 56 tablets that cost him $2.00 per bottle, with most of that going to the bottle and box packaging. He sells as many as he can in a hurry, makes a very large profit, and waits for the complaints. If there are only a few refund requests, he pays, and places other ads in other media -- he lasts about 5 months, then quietly folds his tent and disappears.
Those who buy one bottle get the bottle, but with an offer to get 6 or 12 at enormous discounts. People buy more to get the bargain -- before they discover that the stuff is worthless.
After some failed attempts, and being sent to two other addresses, and two eMails, I was able to get a list of ingredients. There are these:
Skullcap -- a toxic herb
Alfalfa
Celery
Joe Pye Weed -- a common weed
Betel Nut (for chewing)
Burdock -- a toxic herb
Sarsparilla --
Jalapeno
In a base of Rice Flour
The quantities for each of these ingredients is NOT shown on the label for the bottle. This product could have a trivial amount of any of these ingredients, less than 1 mg, even, and fulfill the legal minimum requirements by the FDA. Let the buyer beware. Rice Flour is undoubtedly the bulk of the tablet. Even though a couple of these ingredients are deadly toxic in large doses, this formula probably has such trivial amounts that you won't get sick!
Probably!
Some of these ingredients, in sufficient quantity, could cause a "buzz" or some effect, such as the Jalapeno, or hot pepper, that would fool a person into thinking that something good was happening. The actual names of these ingredients are shown in the Latin form, so that virtually noone would recognize the herbs by their common names.
My estimate of cost of manufacture for this bottle, is less than $ .25, assuming trivial amounts of the herbs, plus the package. Since the bottle sells for $41 each, they can afford to give lots of refunds, sell just a lot and make many hundreds of thousands of dollars before they are proven to be a fraud.
It is happening right now -- I predict.
I sent an eMail to the company to ask for ingredients? The eMail was returned as not deliverable! I got a second address after a phone call, and did get a list of ingredients and a picture of the label HERE.

They have no published information about their company on the web. Instead of that they have only the following.
customerservice@covaxillaboratories.com If you want information, click, and your eMail program opens, you get this as the address to which your query goes. No data here. That eMail doesn't work!
One of the web addresses is: http://www.trivestin.com/
The same exact pages are also at: https://www.covaxillaboratories.com/
This page is registered to the same person's name, but does not exist on the web: https://www.covaxil.com/
As of May 15, 2003, neither of these active websites have been indexed by Google. That means that they are brand new and/or so small that a reputable search engine does not recognize them. This is common for a here-today-gone-tomorrow company.
Another fraudulent name is not found in Google: Your search - trevestat forte - did not match any documents.
Very few people know how to investigate a web name.
Here is the ownership of covaxillaboratories.com web site.

When I called their order number, and asked about ingredients, the man suggested I send an eMail. When I told him that I tried and the message came back, undeliverable, he gave me their "other web site."
